What is your design process?
My design process really depends upon the client, but I normally begin with customer and trend research as well as catwalk analysis and interpret this into a commercial, production viable range. I produce detailed flat drawings and technical specifications if required.

Which designers do you look to for inspiration?
I love the quirky retro style of Sonia Rykiel and Betsey Johnson and their feminine flirty feel. I also admire the attention to detail and sophistication of Lanvin and the use of beautiful fabrics.

What else inspirers you?
The 1940's and 1950's are big inspirations as they way of dressing was so feminine. Audrey Hepburn epitomises style for me.

What type of garments do you most like to design?
Womenswear including knitwear, jersey and wovens, but love dresses - they are always a whole oufit in one.

Do you design freehand or use CAD?
I do both freehand and CAD, depending on client. Its important to be able to draw freehand and consider garment construction.

Which job has given you the most satisfaction?
Freelance for Rene Derhy in Paris is fantastic - Its a product that has the level of detail and creativity of designer pieces, at high street prices.
What do you think the key trends for A/W2010 are?
I think a return to reusing and recycling will be important with awareness on sustainable fashion and maintaining a healthy planet. Collaborations with charity shops will increase. Trend wise, I am looking at 80's rock with bleaching and blurred techniques.

What is important to you when you design a piece?
Commerciality, wearablility and comfort. To design pieces that make you feel special.
