1. The project I have bid on has ended, why isn't there 'bid accepted' next to any of the designers names?
Companies have an indefinite time to make a decision on which designer to accept & they don't have to accept any designer if they don't want to.
Because of this, designers whose bids are not successful are only informed that they have been unsuccessful once a designer has actually been chosen.

You manage the designer as you would any freelancer you employ. When you accept a designers bid we give you their contact details, and they get yours. Make sure that when you post a project you give as much information as possible, including uploading any images you think will help to explain what you require. Be very clear on what you need, leave as little interpretation as possible. If you are expecting full detailed specs in Illustrator format make sure you say so in your initial post. Say if you require full measurements, close up drawings of details, internals etc. Remember the designer will leave feedback for you after the project is completed so don't change you mind half way through a project and expect the designer to re-do the work!
